History
La Montedison nasce nel 1966 dalla fusione tra Montecatini ed Edison. La Edison, nata nel 1884 a Milano, è stata una delle prime aziende a sfruttare in Italia l'energia idroelettrica alla base della prima industrializzazione italiana, costruendo dighe lungo l'arco alpino, in particolare in Lombardia; già ai primi del ‘900 la Edison era uno dei gruppi industriali dominanti in Italia, suddividendosi il controllo del mercato elettrico nell'Italia del Nord con la SIP - Società idroelettrica piemontese, concentrata in Piemonte e Liguria, e la SADE, forte nel Nord Est.
